USCG Approved Courses Offered

  • Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV/Six-Pack): Allows the holder to carry up to six paying passengers on uninspected vessels up to 100 gross tons (about 75-90 feet long). These are usually smaller vessels that normally engage in charter fishing, SCUBA diving, or tour cruises. As such, these vessels are limited to six paying passengers plus crew-hence the term "Six-Pack."

  • OUPV/Six-Pack Upgrade to Master 25/50/100 Ton License: This course provides an opportunity for the holder of an OUPV (Captain's) license to raise their grade to a Master-level license. The Master Upgrade allows the holder to operate inspected vessels as well as uninspected vessels. The Master level license is required by the USCG for any inspected vessel certified to carry more than six paying passengers. Such vessels would include headboats, assistance towboats, large passenger capacity tour boats, etc.

  • Master 25/50/100 Ton License: The USCG Master License allows the holder to operate inspected vessels as well as uninspected vessels. Any vessel that is certified (authorized) by the USCG to carry more than 6 paying passengers plus crew must have a Captain who holds a Master license. Ferry boats, harbor tours boats, whale watch boats are examples of inspected vessels.

  • Sailing Endorsement: This course is designed to fulfill the training and testing requirements for an Auxiliary Sailing Endorsement on any Masters or Mate License.

  • Towing Endorsement: This course is for those who hold an OUPV or Masters License and would like to engage in assisting vessels for a fee.

  • Deck License Renewal: Any student that currently holds a USCG Deck License that completes the course receives a certificate that the Coast Guard will accept in lieu of meeting their 360 day time on the water requirement for license renewal.

  • Physical Exam and Drug Testing: The USCG requires a Merchant Marine Physical Examination Report for an original license. It is also required for renewals and a raise in grade. Mariners School offers these services in different locations across the country.
